And that power is needed given that all new buildings are designed with 3D models. All our drafters, for lack of a better term, get 27" and 22" monitors connected to a fairly beastly dell desktop. That being said I don't see all in ones replacing our desktops anytime soon. They are really really fantastic for this industry given how much time we have to spend walking around and marking things down, it's a lot easier to carry a surface than a 3ft by 4ft set of blueprints. Surface Books for higher level managers, and Surface Pros for all of our travelling / site staff.

I work at an Architecture / Engineering firm and we are going largely Surfaces for all our portable computers. I mean these guys draw CAD and they're on surface already, I can easily imagine other firms switching to more powerful hardware and functionality. I have friends in architecture firms switching over to surface for portability/usability. So I don't expect it to come to fruition.

Of course, I expect the cost offset of such a system might make it a turn-off since most people don't upgrade their systems.
I can always replace the bits inside a standard computer case that isn't an all in one, but something like this would be even better. I could buy just the bits that I need (computer itself - including the CPU) plus an upgraded GPU and the storage modules that I want. If it were more modular (and especially if it were kind of plug and play like it sounds like some of the MS designs are) then I would be totally ok with getting a new all in one. When my machine eventually becomes too out of date to do the kind of work I want to be doing then I will be having to get rid of a perfectly good screen just to get an updated processor. Updating the computer is completely out of the question (I'd like a bigger HD or even an SSD but the hassle in adding one of those is beyond what I am willing to do). I had to return it for warranty work (two recalls) and that is a huge pain in the ass.
